PTG2: High-Pressure Transmission Gas Pipeline leading from Sarajevo via Mostar to Ploče

Project Location:

FB&H

Project Aim:

Project Priority:

Middle-Term Project

A new route of supplying with natural gas from the South of Bosnia & Herzegovina with a possibility of diversifying sources of supply (there are potential routes of connecting Caspian Region with Western Europe through this region– Adriatic-Ionian Initiative); increasing security of supplying the existing transmission system of Bosnia & Herzegovina; extending market and increasing competitiveness of natural gas. This Project is also of the regional importance since by construction of this gas pipeline, the natural gas transmission system of Bosnia & Herzegovina would be connected to the natural gas transmission system of the Republic of Croatia by the gas pipeline leading from Bosiljevo via Split to Ploče expected to be completed by the end of 2001.

Project Character:

Regional / State Project

Project Description:

Length:

Approx. 175

km

Diameter:

16 / 20

inch

Pressure:

50 / 75

bar

Max. capacity:

1.0 / 2. 0

Billion m3

The Sarajevo – Ploče gas pipeline would be an extension of the Bosanski Brod – Zenica gas pipeline. By construction of these two gas pipelines, B&H would be connected both in the north and south part of its territory with the systems in neighboring Croatia and Serbia since the interconnection between the systems of Serbia and Croatia has been planned. The route of this pipeline has been planned to follow the route of the Vc corridor. The option of using 20” gas pipeline not only for gas transmission to B&H but for transiting natural gas to Croatia in the future has also been considered.  The total length of the gas pipeline includes branch lines for the cities in the Federation of B&H: Konjic, Jablanica, Mostar and Čapljina. Note: Branch lines to the big centers in Republika Srpska (Eastern Herzegovina) such as Nevesinje, Gacko, Trebinje can be planned from this gas pipeline.

Project Status:

Project Documentation: Project idea – The idea goes back to 1987 when the “Preliminary Analysis of Conditions and Possibility of Constructing LNG-Terminal, Re-gasification of LNG and Delivery of Natural Gas at the Port of Ploče” was prepared. Pre-feasibility Study should be prepared.

Estimated Construction Cost:

The total investments are estimated at :

16-inch variant:    59 Million EURO

20-inch variant:      73 Million EURO

Note: The total investments include necessary metering and regulating stations for the cities Konjic, Jablanica, Mostar and Čapljina.

PGG2: Gasification of the Cities along the Route of the Sarajevo – Ploče Gas Pipeline

Project Location:

FB&H; Herzegovina – Neretva Canton

Project Aim:

Project Priority:

Middle-Term/ Long-Term Project

The introduction of natural gas as a new energy form would create the conditions for further market expansion. Stress is placed on exploring the possibilities of applying new technologies (combined heat and power (CHP) generation) and on natural gas applications (for cooling, hot-water preparation, natural gas in transportation applications) in order to reach the consumption of annual volumes as evenly as possible.

Project Character:

Entity Project

Project Description:

Network

Distribution network made of polyethylene pipes

Pressure:

Middle and low pressure

Estimated Consumption:

150

Million m3

Project Status:

The conditions for gasification of the cities, mainly along the route of the gas pipeline, such as Konjic, Jablanica, Mostar and Čapljina as well as other cities in Herzegovina – Neretva Canton and in other regions (Western Herzegovina Canton and Eastern Herzegovina in Republika Srpska) shall be created by construction of the Sarajevo-Ploče gas pipeline. Aluminum Factory of Mostar (not included into consumption estimation) has already expressed its interest for long-term use of natural gas at a level of 200 million m3/year to be used in a new steam power plant and additional 50 million m3/year to substitute the existing fuel.

Project Documentation: Project Idea – General solution, Preparation of Pre-feasibility Study is necessary.
