PTGS6: Underground Natural Gas Storage Facility in the Tetima Salt Mine including Gas Pipeline Connection leading from Kladanj via Tuzla to Tetima

Project Location:

FB&H

Project Aim:

Project Priority:

Long-term Project

To provide security of supply, to cover peak winter loads and to balance seasonal oscillations in consumption. This Project opens a possibility of further developing natural gas market.

Project Character:

Regional / State Project

Project Description:

Storage Facility Features:

Project Status:

Number of chambers:

4

Project documentation for Storage Facility: Pre-feasibility Study for Underground Natural Gas Storage Facility in the Tetima Salt Mine near Tuzla prepared in 2001. Additional investigations and examinations should be carried out. Project documentation for gas pipeline: General  solution

Useful chamber capacity:

124 000

m3

Raster of boring:

180

m

Max/Min chamber pressure:

126 / 25

bar

Chamber diameter:

50

m

Minimum useful capacity of storage facility:

60

Mil. m3

Estimated Construction Cost:

Should the existing consumption pattern be maintained, the capacity of the storage facility would be enough to cover seasonal oscillations in consumption of approx. 400 million m3/a year. Construction time schedule implies technological interdependence between the work of the salt mine and construction of storage facility. Estimated time of completion of the whole project (including all 4 chambers) is approx. 4 years. This time schedule presumes that all investigation work as well as preparation work (demining, designing etc.) has been completed till the beginning of the project realization.

Connecting the storage facility to the existing gas system should be made by constructing Kladanj – Tuzla – Tetima gas pipeline of total length of 55 km and of a diameter of 16 inch. After the Bosanski Brod – Zenica gas pipeline has been constructed; there would be a possibility of connecting the storage facility to this gas pipeline by constructing Tuzla – Doboj gas pipeline of total length of 47 km and of a diameter of 16 inch. Pressure of both gas pipelines should be minimum 50 bars.

The total investments are estimated at:

Underground Storage Facility

There are 3 (three) variants of possible investment costs depending on defining other project aims:

Variant I – Storage facility to be used to balance seasonal consumption and to satisfy peak demand

approx. 42 million EURO

Variant II – Storage facility to be used in case of damage in gas pipeline or for strategic aims

approx. 44 million EURO

Variant III – The Project should be realized in phases, what implies investments in two underground chambers; In other words, the Project would be realized as Variant I, but without two production lines for two caverns and without two compressors

approx. 35 million EURO

Kladanj – Tuzla – Tetima Gas Pipline: 19 million EURO

Note: The investments do not include Tuzla – Doboj gas pipeline.
