Development in Gas Consumption In 1990, natural gas
consumption in Bosnia and Herzegovina reached a level of about 610 MCM with the upward
trend. In the post-war period, the consumption has ranged from 150 to 200 MCM, the main
reason of which is impossibility to start recovering war-destroyed industry.

Consumption
Structure
In the pre-war period, the B&H industry, as continuous customer, accounted for around
85% of the total natural gas consumption. After the war, the consumption structure has
changed markedly, with peak use in the residential sector and heating plants, while the
industrial consumption is very unstable due to frequent slowdowns of production processes.

Seasonal
Fluctuations in Natural Gas Consumption in B&H
The change in the consumption structure reflects in declining offtake by industrial
customers and in increasing offtake by residential sector, which leads to very significant
seasonal imbalance. For this reason it is necessary to compensate the seasonal
fluctuations either by paying costs for unused but committed capacity during summer months
or by buying additional quantity during the winter months.
